I am one of the folks who love Christmas. I
am not particularly sentimental, nor am I into elaborate decorating or
gift-giving. I just like the music and the general shift in mood that

National Grandparents Day is this Sunday, September 13th. The day has been celebrated in the US since 1978 and Canada since 1995. Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation declaring the first Sunday after Labor Day as a U.S. holiday with a purpose: "... to honor grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show
love for their children's children, and to help children become aware
of strength, information, and guidance older people can offer." The founder of the holiday, Marian McQuade, was recognized by the American Senate for her efforts in urging young people to adopt a grandparent, and not just for a day a year. McQuade advocated making younger people appreciate what their elders have to offer: sharing their lifetime of experience and caring.
More information is available at the National Grandparents Day Council website.

- A grandfather is a man grandmother.
- Grandparents don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn't play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the store and have lots of quarters for us.
