I was reading Ken Dychtwald’s With Purpose recently, and was struck by a comment in the introduction. He noted that "in a single generation, sixty-two went from 'such a long life' to 'he died so young'."  Being 57 myself, I have a personal interest in the subject of aging and how I can continue to live a life that is significant and contributes to the communities in which I live, learn, work, and play. The early Boomer retirees are rewriting the book of what ‘freedom from having to earn a living’ means. Of course, there is the rush to enjoy some of the perks of our new-found freedom. But once the lustre of all that unscheduled time wears off, we're faced with the realization that retirement can also mean the freedom to take on those issues we either didn’t have time for when we were younger or were afraid to risk what we had going at the time for. Werner Erhard

I saw a documentary film last night entitled, “Transformation: The Life and Legacy of Werner Erhard”. I had heard a lot about it from many friends who shared some of the ‘heady’ experience of working with him in the 70s and 80s. The film was a very well done tribute to his work and to the man I knew. I had expected that the film’s purpose was to restore his reputation after his departure from the USA following a controversial ‘character assassination’ piece on CBS’s 60 Minutes. I was pleased that its focus was more on his work and the broad contribution that he has made in so many areas of contemporary culture.[Read More]
