The Third Chapter

Bill Moyers recently interviewed Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot, one of America’s leading educators and sociologists, about her new book, The Third Chapter: Passion, Risk and Adventure in the 25 years after 50. This book traces the stories of 40 people who choose to do work that is meaningful and who create their own unique ways to be productive, purposeful, creative and innovative as they grow older. In the interview, Ms. Lawrence-Lightfoot speaks of a new kind of creative, collaborative learning we have to do in later life and of "the importance of cross-generational projects and dialogues".

"It is
about young people listening to old people. Old people listening to
young people. Having a real discourse with respect and with empathy."
